Myth-Busting Boudoir Photography: What You Really Need to Know

Many women hesitate to book a boudoir photoshoot because of misconceptions. Let’s bust the most common myths about boudoir photography and show what it’s really about.

Myth 1: You Have to Be “Sexy” to Book

False. Boudoir isn’t about proving anything. It’s about feeling empowered in your own skin. Every session is tailored to make you comfortable, confident, and authentically you.

Myth 2: Only Certain Body Types Look Good in Boudoir

Absolutely not. Every body photographs beautifully with professional lighting, posing, and styling. Boudoir is about celebrating diversity, not fitting a mold.

Myth 3: You Must Know How to Pose

Nope. You don’t need experience. I guide every pose, every movement, and every angle, so you look and feel your best.

Myth 4: Boudoir Photography Is Only for Young Women

Wrong again. Women of all ages book boudoir sessions, from 20s to 70s and beyond. Confidence and empowerment have no age limit.

Myth 5: It’s Just About the Photos

Not even close. Boudoir photography is a transformative experience. The images are beautiful, yes, but the confidence, self-appreciation, and empowerment last far longer.

The Truth About Boudoir Photography

It’s about self-love. It’s about courage. It’s about seeing yourself differently, and walking away proud, confident, and celebrated.

Can I Do a Boudoir Shoot If I’m Not Confident?

Can I Do a Boudoir Shoot If I’m Not Confident?

This might surprise you, but most women who book a boudoir photoshoot don’t feel confident at all. They book because they don’t feel confident, and they want to change that.

You Don’t Need Confidence to Book Boudoir

You don’t need to:

  • Love your body

  • Feel sexy

  • Know how to pose

  • Be comfortable in front of a camera

Confidence is not a prerequisite… IT’S OFTEN THE RESULT!

How Boudoir Photography Builds Confidence

During your session, you’re guided, supported, and celebrated. You see yourself differently through professional lighting, thoughtful posing, and a compassionate lens.

Many clients tell me they expected beautiful photos… but what they didn’t expect was how the experience made them feel.

Seen. Strong. Proud.

Boudoir Is for Real Women

Boudoir photography isn’t reserved for a certain age, size, or stage of life. Women book sessions to mark milestones, reclaim their identity, or simply do something for themselves.

If you’re waiting to feel confident before booking, you may be waiting forever. Sometimes, confidence begins with saying yes.

What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session (And What Not To)

What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session (And What Not To)

One of the most common questions clients ask before their boudoir photoshoot is: What should I wear? The good news… Boudoir photography isn’t about wearing the smallest or sexiest lingerie; it’s about wearing what makes you feel confident.

What Works Beautifully in Boudoir Photography

Some of the most flattering and timeless options include:

  • Well fitted lingerie in neutral (black, white) or deep royal tones (navy, maroon, emerald)

  • Oversized button up shirt / leather or denim jackets

  • Bodysuits

  • Lace robes

  • Body jewellery

  • Wet singlet

  • Big fur coat

  • Wide net fishnet stockings

  • Thigh high boots

  • Bare skin with sheets

  • Bare skin with water

Fit matters far more than size. Anything digging in, twisting, or needing constant adjusting will show in photos. A g-string or v-string cut ALWAYS photographs best… full briefs are comfy for day to do, but not as flattering and don’t work best for those killer booty shots!

What to Avoid Wearing

  • Ill-fitting bras or underwear

  • Clothing with tight elastic that leaves marks

  • Busy patterns or logos

  • Anything you don’t feel comfortable moving in

If you’re constantly worrying about how something looks, it will affect how you feel, and boudoir photography is about feeling empowered.

How Many Outfits Should I Bring?

Most clients bring 3-4 outfit options. We’ll choose what photographs best once you’re in the studio and see how fabrics and tones work with different sets and lighting depending on the vibe you’re after.

Do I Have to Wear Lingerie?

Absolutely not. Boudoir photography can be soft, sensual, strong, elegant, or minimal. Some clients wear lingerie. Others wear nothing but confidence.

There is no “right” way to do boudoir, only what feels right for you.
